The University of Nairobi scientists have occupied over 35% of the top 1000 scientists in Kenya as ranked by AD scientific index latest report. 

The report shows that the University of Nairobi has been ranked number 1 in public universities, followed by Meru University of Science and Technology, Moi University and Kenyatta University respectively.

356 UoN scholars have been ranked according to the H Index, i10 Index and Citations for the last five years.

Elizabeth Ngugi, Walter Jaoko and Ruth Nduati were the three top most scientists with 12155, 11,292, and 9450 citations respectively all on the subject of Medical and Health Sciences field, different specialties.

Overrall, John Bongaarts of the Population Council is the top most scientist in Kenya with a total of 27 922 citations on the subject of Population Council.

Other subjects that were top ten in the University’s ranking are:- Social sciences, Open and distance learning, Economics, Natural Sciences, statistics and Agriculture and Forestry.

From the same report, the University of Nairobi has been ranked number 29 in the region and 1839 in the world and with 397 as the total scientists in index.
