A delegation from the Alliance 4 Universities visited the University of Nairobi on 24th October 2023 to deepen their collaboration with UoN and increase their global impact through joint research and programs with selected strategic partners across the globe.

The Alliance 4 is a group of 4 top leading Universities in Spain comprising of University of Carlos 3 in Madrid, Universidad Automoma Madrid(UAM), Universitat Autonoma Barcelona (UAB) and the University of Pompeu Fabra (UPF).

The delegation comprised the following:

1. Prof. Carolina Marugán, Vice-Rector for Internationalization for the UC3M, 

2. Prof. Irene Martín, Vice-Rector for Internationalization for the UAM

3. Prof. Màrius Martinez, Vice-Rector for International Relations for the UAB

4. Prof. Helena Ramalhinho, Vice-Rector for Internationalization for the UPF

 5. Glòria Rehues, International Relations Coordinator for the A-4U Gloria.

While paying a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, the delegation   observed that the partnership with the Alliance gives the University of Nairobi a wide access for funding for mobility and research through the Alliance and through other European Universities.

UoN can receive EU funding through the alliance. The team noted that a good number of staff and students from the University of Nairobi have been able to proceed on short- and long-term   mobility through EU funded Erasmus Mobility program.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kiama Gitahi on his part thanked the Alliance for identifying and selecting the University of Nairobi as one of their strategic partners in Africa. He assured the delegation that UoN is a good  collaboative partner. UoN, he said, is ready to deepen its collaboration with the Alliance through increased joint research and double degree programs. He praised the collaboration between African and European Universities under the collaborative framework between Africa Research Universities Association (ARUA) and the GUILD in Europe.
