The overall objective of this project is to enhance the capacity of local communities in Marsabit County to control livestock diseases that limit production and access to markets. The project will provide a framework for sustainable development in the drylands by enhancing disease control, livestock production and marketing and food security..The project seeks to address the following specific objectives:

1.            Document livestock diseases including zoonoses that limit production and marketing in representative drylands sites in Marsabit Kenya

2.            Determine the socio-cultural issues that influence livestock diseases and marketing in representative drylands sites in Marsabit

3.            Investigate environmental factors that influence disease distribution and occurrence (modeling- predict disease patterns) in representative drylands sites in Marsabit Kenya

4.            Build the capacity of the local communities, through a two way knowledge exchange on the interventional measures that will enhance livestock disease control to support production and marketing in representative drylands sites inMarsabit Kenya.
