he Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Republic of Kenya has the pleasure of announcing that it will receive applications for the "2024 Global Korea Scholarship Program for Graduate Degrees (GKS-G)" by the National Institute for International Education(NIIED) under the Korean Ministry of Education.

 

The GKS-G is aimed at providing international students with an opportunity to pursue graduate studies at higher educational institutions in Korea to promote international exchange in education and mutual friendship between Korea and Kenya.
 

Under this program, seven(7) Kenyan applicants and two(2) Somalians (among the applicants to the Embassy) will get an opportunity to undertake their graduate studies in a Korean university supported by the Korean government.

 How to Apply 

○ Read carefully the attached "2024 GKS-G Application Guidelines (English)" for the instructions on how to apply and the necessary documents to be submitted (along with the attached "2024 GKS-G Application Forms").

○ Attached '2024 GKS GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS INFORMATION FORM' should be sent by email to "secretary-ke01@mofa.go.kr" within 48 hours after submitting the applications.

○ The Embassy of the Republic of Korea receives only the Embassy Track Applications, from 13th February. (Tue.) to 4th March,(Mon.) 2024 (at 9AM~12PM and 2PM ~ 3:30PM),
Reception,1st Floor, Misha Tower, 47 Westlands Road, Nairobi, Kenya. (The Embassy will not open on 1st March 2024 due to holidays.)

○ Date of Interview: 19th March. (Tue.)

* If an applicant does not attend the interview, he or she will be dropped out.

* The interview date will be able to change because of the Korean Embassy's circumstances.

* Interview Methods

- Kenyan: In-person Interview

- Somalian: Virtual Interview

Eligibility 

○ Age : Must be under 40 years of age(born after 1st September, 1984)

○ Nationality: Kenyan or Somalian

- All applicants and their parents must NOT hold Korean citizenship

- Academic professors in one of the Official Development Assistance (ODA) recipients who are under 45 years of age (born after 1st September 1979) are eligible to apply.

○ Level of Education

- Applicants who are expected to graduate by 31st July 2024 can also apply for the program with a certificate of expected graduation. Such applicants must submit their official graduation certificate (or diploma) and final academic transcript to GKS Center, NIIED by 31st July 2024. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of your acceptance.

○ Grade

The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of the entire curriculum from the previous degree program must meet one of the conditions below;

Score percentile should be 80% or above on a 100-point scale or be ranked in the top 20% of one's class          

CGPA must be equal to or above 2.64/ 4.0, 2.80/ 4.3, 2.91/ 4.5 or 3.23/ 5.0

Applicants must submit an academic transcript with CGPA or ranking information

If a transcript does not provide CGPA in any one of the accepted GPA scales (4.0, 4.3, 4.5, 5.0 or 100-point scale), then the applicant must submit a transcript converted into one of the above GPA scales as a supplementary document

○ Health

- All applicants must be in good health, both mentally and physically, to study in Korea for the full duration of the program.

○ All forms and necessary documents should strictly follow the attached guidelines and should be physically submitted in 4 copies.(One Original + Three Copies)

○ All educational certificates should be certified by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kenya.

○ Any missing of documents after the time of applying may result in disqualification.

○ After applying, If you don't receive any communication from the Embassy by 15th March 2024 5PM, kindly consider that you are not shortlisted.

○ For the University track, applicants need to check and apply directly to the University of their choice. You can find contacts in the university's information which has been attached.
 

Important to note

○ Applicants who are not shortlisted in the Embassy track can still submit to the University track.

○ In this case, you must apply only after we announce the shortlist. If you submit to both tracks at the same time, you will automatically be disqualified.

○ If you don't receive any communication from the Embassy by 15th March 2024 5PM, kindly consider you are not shortlisted and you can apply to the University track thereafter.

○ If you want to apply to only the University track, you can apply from now on following the schedule of each University.
