The East African Community (EAC) under Ligi ya Vijana , an inter-sectoral agenda for Youth in the Regional Integration Movement held its 3rd EAC Youth Seminar, with the aim of fast tracking the EAC community integration and fulfilment of the EAC pillars among young people.

The seminar sought to sensitize the youth on the ideological concept of the EAC and how it could be leveraged to ensure that no one is left behind in economic integration ensuring a prosperous, competitive, secure, politically united and stable East Africa by 2050.

The youth were highly encouraged by Hon. Belinda Amanya to bring value propositions to gain access to seats at the tables of governance. She also delved into the role of the youth in fast tracking political federation and good governance in areas such as common markets: where free movement of services, capital and labor would hugely benefit youth and foster exposure like European markets.

The EAC integration aimed at monetary and common union linkages while eliminating cross border division allowing communities to communicate and trade with each other. A point that was emphasized by Hon.Sadia Sebit, EALA MP South Sudan. She also highlighted the need to produce and consume our own products as well as establish finished products facilities negating the role of raw product producers.

Hon. Wanjiku Muhia, Chairperson Regional Integration committee called the youth global assets and advised them not to be afraid to negotiate their demands and articulate their needs because the future depends on them.

Youth Representative Senator, Hezena Lemaletia, reminded the youth that the bedrock of any society was peace and diplomacy and that the EAC Youth Seminar was an agenda lead by young people from EALA (East African Legislative Assembly) and EAC. She expounded on the need for young people to be strategic in direction and network creation using her own personal rise to power story. She cautioned the youth not to underestimate courteousness, passion and aggressive networking as these where keys that open doors for young people to thrive.

Representative Cabinet Secretary Ministry of EAC was pleased with youth engagement and interaction with integration and common market union leading to trading blocs backed by strong currency and resources fueling vision EAC 2050.
