CSDES attends USAID/Kenya partners forum

The Centre for Sustainable Dryland Ecosystems & Societies (CSDES) staff attended USAID/Kenya Agriculture Business and Environment Office (ABEO) quarterly partner’s forum held at the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) in Nairobi on 7th September 2012.

The objective of the ABEO Partners Forum was to learn about the programs currently underway. In the meeting CSDES project management team was led by The Coordinator/PI Prof. Jesse Njoka and the project manager Peter Kamande.

The Centre for Sustainable Dryland Ecosystem and Societies (CSDES) is hosting a team of faculty members from Colorado State University (CSU).  The main objectives of the CSU visit is to: assess Open Distance Learning/E-learning facilities at University of Nairobi Kikuyu campus, Kibwezi field station, Isiolo and Samburu; to review and develop dryland curriculum; and finalization of the call for CSDES Research Grant Proposals.

University of Nairobi (UoN) and Colorado State University (CSU) have signed an agreement to establish a foundation of a strategic partnership between the two. The goal of UoN-CSU partnership is to create a Centre for Sustainable Dryland Ecosystems and Societies (CSDES) at UoN to develop an integrated approach to sustaining Kenyan dryland ecosystems and societies by linking research, higher education and communities.

CSDES ENDEARS IT SELF TO ASAL POLICY DEVELOPMENT IN KENYA

The Centre for Sustainable Drylands and Ecosystem Societies (CSDES) has made a major stride in policy development by participating in the launch of the National Policy for the Sustainable Development of Northern Kenya and other Arid Lands.

Launched on 5th February 2013 in Nairobi, CSDES was represented by the Project Manager, Peter Kamande, with the aim of introducing the Centre to partners in the government, NGO’s and members of the private sector. It is also a move aimed at cementing the partnership between the Centre and the Ministry of State for the Development of Northern Kenya and other Arid Lands.
