As you well know, KARI is a Public Research Institute with the mandate of developing appropriate agricultural technologies and catalysing the process of technology transfer. The institute contributes immensely to the economic development of this country considering the fact that agriculture still remains the engine of growth.

MPALA FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM: MEEKER FAMILY FUND CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

 

The Mpala Fellowship from the Meeker Family Fund in collaboration with the Center for Sustainable Dryland Ecosystems and Societies seek to identify and support students from CSDES and other African universities who combine extraordinary talent and accomplishment with a demonstrated academic commitment to careers and leadership in conservation in Africa. Fellowships will normally be granted for two years, with funding for year two subject to successful completion of year one.

CSU and UoN partnership to strengthen

UoN TO HOST THE NORMAN BORLAUG LEAP CONFERENCE

The University of Nairobi (UoN) through the Centre for Sustainable Dryland Ecosystems and Societies (CSDES) is scheduled to host the Norman E. Borlaug (LEAP) conference on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS). The event is expected to bring together more than 100 participants with a majority being beneficiaries of the Borlaug (LEAP) fellowships. Other stakeholders also expected to attend the conference include; scientists, policymakers, former Borlaug LEAP Fellows, Mentors, and USAID representatives.

Intra-mobility Scholarhips

Intra-ACP Academic mobility Project: Inter-University Co-operation to Train Crop Scientists for Enhancing Agriculture in Africa (CSAA)

What is the programme about? The ACP-EU under its academic mobility programme, Mwalimu Nyerere, has provided funding to support training of graduate students in African universities. In this mobility programme twelve African partner institutions will collaborate in the training of professionals to enhance agricultural productivity and assure food security for sub-Saharan Africa.  43 Masters and 20 PhD will be trained in the thematic areas of Plant Production and Protection, Environment and Adaptation to Climate Change, Management of Protected Areas and Natural Grasslands, Dryland Management for Agriculture, Agro-forestry and Environment, Research Methods and Approaches in Agriculture and Women and Gender in Agriculture. In addition 10 administrative staff will participate in a capacity building program mainly in areas of financial and international student management among others.  Mobility partners will either act as sending and/or hosting institutions.  The project will provide fellowships for full degree programs (PhDs and MSc) as well as short term mobility for students and staff and will run from 2014 until 2018.
