A UoN Journalism student feted at the IGAD Media Awards 2025
Annastacia Kiragu, a distinguished 4th-year Broadcast Production student from the Department of Journalism at the University of Nairobi and a dedicated UNC Radio/TV mentee, has achieved international recognition.
Annastacia was honored as the Upcoming Media Personality of the Year at the prestigious IGAD Media Awards. The awards, dubbed "Celebrating storytellers who are rewriting stories in IGAD regions," culminated in a ceremony held in Ethiopia on November 30th, 2025. Her winning entry, the documentary episode "Hope in the dumps," masterfully captured the daily ideologies and inspiring resilience of families struggling to make a living at the Dandora dumpsite.
This impactful story is one of 21 episodes in the ongoing UNC TV Journey Uncharted documentary series, a compelling package produced for the University of Nairobi TV station, UNC TV.
