The Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Nairobi, as part of the activities of the Seventh Annual Conference of the Faculty of Science and Technology will host the 12th International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week of Action (ILPPWA) under the health subtheme.

This year, Kenya will be joining the global community in marking the 12th International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week of Action (ILPPWA) which is held globally during 22 - 26 October 2024. The annual ILPPWA provides a unique opportunity to recognize the need for multi-sectoral cooperation to support and accelerate programs to prevent unacceptable risks of childhood lead exposure. The efforts and commitments of institutions/organizations, partners and individuals in preventing lead exposure will be highlighted while envisioning more commitment to establish a clear national roadmap to reduce childhood lead exposure.

The University of Nairobi will host a series of events during the 12th International Lead Poisoning and Prevention Week of Action (ILPPWA) in collaboration with the multi-sectoral committee on sound chemical management under the Ministries of Health and Environment among several partners and diverse media. The activities will piggyback on the University of Nairobi's Research Week 2024 (RSW2024). The week will start with a special focused and interactive evidence-driven technical forum to inform policy involving onsite keynote speakers, presenters, experts, partners, key stakeholders and lead alliance partners and will open to virtual participation. The 3rd day will involve a high-level platform to appreciate and acknowledge the commitment of various stake holders and individuals while urging further actions to reduce lead exposure. The last day, 25th October 2024, will culminate the week's activity involving a procession with a band and awareness rich materials to seek attention for strong support from the Ministries of Environment and Health to Establish a Clear National Roadmap to Reduce Lead Exposure for a Brighter Future!
