Deepening Global Ties: Valencia’s CEU Cardenal Herrera University Unveils Exclusive Exchange Pathways
In a bold move to broaden the global horizons of its academic partnership s,the University of Nairobi hosted an student engagement event for a delegation from Spain’s prestigious CEU Cardenal Herrera's University (UCH CEU).
The interactive session, designed to bridge the geographical gap between Nairobi and Valencia, provided a comprehensive roadmap for students and staff eager to navigate the burgeoning landscape of international exchange mobilities.
During the engagement session David Adorna from the UCH CEU International Admissions Office painted a vivid picture of life and learning at an institution that has become a beacon of internationalization since its founding in 1972.
With a sprawling presence across the Valencia region, UCH CEU has cultivated a remarkably cosmopolitan environment where nearly 40 percent of the student body is comprised of international learners representing 111 distinct nationalities.
Adorna revealed that the university has spent the last decade aggressively expanding its English-taught programs and support systems, ensuring that language barriers no longer stand in the way of academic excellence.
Erick Chesoni, an administrator at the University of Nairobi’s International Office urged the students to seize these opportunities as vital catalysts for personal and professional growth.
His sentiment were echoed by Adorna, who drew upon his own formative years studying in Germany to emphasize that global education is as much about adaptability and overcoming challenges as it is about classroom learning.
He detailed a holistic admissions philosophy that looks far beyond standard test scores, instead seeking candidates with rich co-curricular backgrounds in volunteering, internships, and language proficiency.
Participants were given an inside look at the streamlined digital application process, which culminates in a personal online interview where motivation and life experiences take center stage. Perhaps most significantly, the delegation unveiled a robust financial support framework, including merit-based scholarships that cover between 75 and 100 percent of tuition fees. These awards, alongside specialized sports and collaboration grants, underscore a commitment to making world-class education accessible to the brightest minds, regardless of their financial background.
The theoretical benefits of the partnership were brought to life through the powerful testimonies of those who have already benefitted from the programs.
Riya Dodhia, a Kenyan student currently excelling in UCH CEU’s Dentistry program, shared an inspiring account of her seamless transition to the welcoming Spanish community. Her narrative was further validated by Clement Oluoch, a fifth-year Microbiology student at the University of Nairobi, who described his own exchange tenure in Valencia as a transformative academic milestone.
With UCH CEU having hosted over 225 international exchange students in the last academic year alone, this collaboration serves as a testament to the University of Nairobi’s unwavering dedication to preparing its graduates for a competitive, globally-minded workforce.
By fostering these international partnerships, the university continues to open more opportunities for it's community at the global stage.
